Mrs. Ramyali Leelaratne

As her father was a Planter (FCIP) in upcountry tea estates, she had to study in Colombo. Her Schools were Anula Vidyalaya,   Nugegoda and Museaus College, Colombo. During School vacations she returned to her home in Norton Bridge with her siblings.   Every evening at vacation her mother used to give them sewing projects and they used to spend their time sitting around on the   carpeted floor, sewing while listening to the radio. That was the beginning which helped her to proceed in this field and she   learnt all basics from her mother. One time she worked as a Secretary in the University Grants Commission and during that time she got married to a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and as he got a foreign job, she had to resign from her post to join him. She returned to island after seven years with a son and a daughter and with many craft knowledge and experience and shared her knowledge with our people in this country. Over the years, she had been rewarded for her versatility in arts and crafts. She was placed first in many handicraft fields and other than that gained an award from ITN Rupavahini for her services rendered by her for more than ten years for Sirimadura Women’s Programme at its 500th programme. Now she is preparing craft lessons for those who want to engage in this type of craft fields as a hobby and for those who seek self employment projects. As all these lessons are very clearly written in such a simple way in English Language and in Sinhala Language, anyone can do them without any difficulty. She wishes good luck for all !
